CBI Seals House of Junior Engineer in Odisha Train Accident Tragedy

In a major development related to the Odisha triple train accident, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sealed the residence of a Signal Junior Engineer in Balasore. The engineer, Amir Khan, who was earlier questioned by the CBI, is now missing along with his family. The CBI's investigation aims to shed light on the incident and determine if there was any tampering with the electronic interlocking system, which could have contributed to the accident. This article provides an overview of the ongoing investigation and the role of a Signal Junior Engineer in ensuring the safety of train operations.

The Role of a Signal Junior Engineer:

A Signal Junior Engineer plays a vital role in maintaining the safety of train operations. Their responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, and repair of signaling equipment such as signals, track circuits, point machines, and interlocking systems. However, it's important to note that the specific duties may vary depending on the division or zone within the Indian Railways.

The Investigation and the Balasore Train Accident:

The Balasore train accident, which occurred earlier this month, resulted in a tragic loss of lives. The death toll has risen to 292, with 287 deaths on the spot and an additional five individuals succumbing to their injuries in hospitals. Moreover, 1,208 people sustained injuries in the accident. Following the incident, the CBI took over the investigation and filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the case.

Tampering with the Electronic Interlocking System:

One of the key concerns raised in the investigation is the alleged tampering with the electronic interlocking system. This system provides crucial information about the status of trains and is vital for ensuring safe operations. The CBI became involved in response to these allegations of sabotage. To further probe this aspect, the agency may seek the expertise of railway security and forensic specialists, as railway-related cases are not their primary area of expertise.

CBI's Actions and Station Closure:

Upon initiating the investigation, the CBI sealed the Bahanaga Bazar station and confiscated essential equipment such as the "log book" and relay panel. The relay interlocking panel, a critical component of the signaling system, was also sealed, rendering the system inaccessible to employees. As a result, the Bahanaga Bazar station has suspended all train operations until further notice, impacting passenger and goods trains.

Involvement of Railway Employees:

The CBI is reportedly examining the potential involvement of five railway employees, including the station master at Bahanaga Bazar, in the Balasore train tragedy. Four other employees responsible for signaling-related work were on duty at the time of the accident. The investigation aims to determine the extent of their involvement and shed light on any negligence or misconduct that may have contributed to the incident.

The investigation into the Odisha triple train accident is in full swing, with the CBI taking charge of the case. The sealing of the Signal Junior Engineer's residence marks a significant step in the investigation process. As the agency delves deeper into the case, it seeks to uncover any possible tampering with the electronic interlocking system and ascertain the role of railway employees in the tragedy. This thorough investigation aims to provide answers, accountability, and justice for the victims and their families while ensuring the safety and integrity of the Indian Railways.
